Artist Biography:

Born in Michigan, Michelle Hinebrook is a contemporary artist living in Brooklyn, New York, best-known for her abstract paintings and glass sculptures. Her work explores spiritual abstraction, lending a new perspective to our emotions, memory, perception and sensory experiences. Her paintings are a study of light, movement and energies, offering the viewer portholes into unseen worlds.

Hinebrook work has been internationally exhibited, commissioned, collected, published and reviewed. Hinebrook’s paintings have been featured in over 50 group exhibitions, 18 solo shows and are also included in several public and corporate collections. Various institutions have invited Hinebrook to serve as visiting artist/critic or lecturer, including the College for Creative Studies, College Art Association, Pratt Institute, University of Michigan, BGS University, Urban Glass, Snowfarm, Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, Artist Space, Parsons, Western Carolina University, and Nurture Art. She is currently a resident artist at XO Projects in Brooklyn, an Adjunct Associate Professor at Pratt Institute and Visiting Instructor at Urban Glass. 

About AEA:

Michelle serves as the primary Instructor and Director at AEA. Her passion for guiding students to discover their unique artistic voice and her belief in art as a potent tool for self-expression and communication led her to establish AEA. Michelle holds a Master's Degree in Fine Arts from the Cranbrook Academy of Art and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art & Design from the College for Creative Studies. With over 21 years dedicated to teaching, her expertise spans various mediums, including painting, drawing, sculpture, graphic design, fashion, textile design, glass art, illustration, and digital art. Alongside her roles as an adjunct professor at Pratt Institute and a visiting instructor at Urban Glass, she maintains a studio as a resident artist at XO Projects in Brooklyn, NY. Michelle's artwork has received international recognition, earning her numerous awards and commissions for its innovative style. Beyond her studio practice, she has also shared her expertise as a visiting artist, critic, and lecturer at esteemed organizations such as the College Art Association, Pratt Institute, Parsons School of Design, Artist Space, and Western Carolina University.

Her professional experience in arts administration and academic advising, coupled with her roles as a juror for art competitions and participation in portfolio review committees, have provided her with a comprehensive understanding of the admissions and selection process. Michelle's dedication to art education, her personal artistic journey, and her steadfast commitment to the transformative power of creativity serve as inspiration for students, encouraging them to explore their artistic potential and excel in their creative pursuits.
