My work is a visual translation of the information and imagery taken from my body and my environment. I am concerned with how virtual and physical interactive elements create structures through connecting relationships. I explore complex systems of intersecting lines which define, separate and connect us to the world and each other. These pattern networks are used to represent social relationships, map surfaces, visualize information, and define layers of interconnected space. The data and imagery I use are developed from a variety of digital and physical mapping systems. I use these systems to envision interior and exterior structures of the body and to reveal patterns. The internal patterns in my work are taken from the human body using medical imaging and scanning technologies. The environmental patterns are generated from photographs and drawings which map my interactions and experiences in the world. The patterns that I use relate to the curves and contours of the human body and also function on both microscopic and macroscopic levels. My work explores interactions which occur between the body and the world and the body and technology. I am interested in revealing and concealing what information lies within the skin of the painting, and I imagine my body as a continuous surface from inside and out. The biomorphic forms in my paintings, the optical color vibrations, and flowing patterns reflect the pulsating rhythms and sensations of the body.
